Microsoft sql server jdbc driver vs jtds drivers#
Here's the thing - when we started testing, the 1.2 drivers worked perfectly fine - we even saw a performance improvement in our app with no tweaking, just started using the 1.2 MS drivers vs 1.1 drivers.

I'm running 1.5.0.14 JDK with JBoss and receive the same error. In testing the SSL implementation in the driver, we noticed that some of the older 1.4 JRE's had spotty SSL handshake implementations, so you may also want to check whether an updated JRE is available that fixes the issue. Note that even if SSL encryption for the entire connection is not required (encrypt=false), the v1.2 JDBC driver still uses SSL to encrypt the initial login packet sent to SQL Server. The Microsoft JDBC driver requires a JKS KeyStore, X.509 based TrustManager, and a SSLv3 or better SSLContext to be supported. You should check your platform configuration and documentation (which appears to be here: ) to make sure you have JSSE configured properly. Unfortunately, in doing so, it did not throw an exception with any useful error message (just null), so we're left guessing what could have gone wrong. It looks like your JRE's default JSSE provider failed at the SSL handshake. Is there any diagnostic method I can use to determine why the driver is attempting to use SSL? I put 'encrypt=false' in the connection properties and everything I've looked at on the SQL Server side shows that SSL isn't being used on that end. I am using sqljdbc.jar version 1.2 and the classes load properly during the launch of the JVM.
